Sumbella Baqai, MD, was named chief medical executive of Sutter Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Calif., effective Oct. 12.
Dr. Baqai will serve as the hospital’s senior physician executive and work with interim CEO and chief nurse executive Jonathan Judy-del Rosario, according to a Sept. 14 news release.
She returns to Eden Medical Center after serving as chief medical executive at Sutter Tracy (Calif.) Community Hospital since 2024. She joined Eden as a hospitalist in 2012 and held leadership roles there including chair of the department of medicine, vice chair of medicine and chair of the utilization management committee, according to the release.
“She returns with the perspective of a successful chief medical executive at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital and the deep understanding of Eden that comes from more than a decade of caring for patients and serving in physician leadership roles there,” Rob Nordgren, MD, chief medical officer of Sutter Health’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay division, said in the release.
Dr. Nordgren is chief medical officer of the Greater San Francisco and East Bay division of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, which provides care to more than 3.5 million Californians and has more than 14,500 physicians and advanced practice clinicians.
