Sutter Health CEO Pat Fry to retire in 2016

Pat Fry, president and CEO of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, will retire in January 2016.

COO Sarah Krevans will succeed Mr. Fry as president and CEO. Ms. Krevans has served as COO of the system since 2012 and held executive roles for 16 years combined. She previously served in administrative roles with Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.

Mr. Fry said he and Sutter Health's board identified Ms. Krevans "early on" to one day assume his role. "I encourage other organizations to invest in their teams and to take time to mentor and plan for succession, so they experience smooth transitions in leadership," he said in a statement.

Mr. Fry has held his current leadership position for 10 years. He joined the system in 1982 as an administrative assistant at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. Under his leadership, the system built or replaced more than a dozen acute-care hospitals and major outpatient facilities, along with physician centers around Northern California. Revenue increased from $6.7 billion to more than $10 billion during his tenure, and the network's total investment in charity care and community benefit exceeded $6 billion over the past 10 years.
