1. Mr. Pilgrim formerly served as CEO of San Antonio-based Baptist Health System, departing suddenly from the role in October 2017.
2. He also served in numerous leadership roles within Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, Baptist’s parent, and Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, which was acquired by Tenet in 2013.
3. Mr. Pilgrim holds an MBA from Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University.
4. He succeeds John Polanowicz, who was promoted to systemwide COO.
5. Last year, Steward completed its acquisition of Iasis Healthcare in Franklin, Tenn. It is now the largest private hospital operator in the nation, overseeing 36 hospitals across 10 states.
