Steven Altschuler named CEO of UHealth: 5 things to know

Steven Altschuler, MD, has been named senior vice president of health affairs at the University of Miami and CEO of UHealth-University of Miami Health System.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Altschuler.

1. He begins his new position Jan. 1.

2. In his new position, he will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the university's clinical delivery system, which includes the university's hospitals, faculty practice plan and clinics, according to a news release. He will also serve in an advising role to the executive vice president and provost of the university, the senior vice president of business and finance and CFO of the university, and the board of trustees.

3. For the past 15 years, Dr. Altschuler was president and CEO of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and The Children's Hospital Foundation.

4. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University and his Doctor of Medicine from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He was an intern and resident at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston, before serving as a postdoctoral fellow at CHOP.

5. As Dr. Altschuler takes on his new role, University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine Dean Pascal Goldschmidt, founder of UHealth and dean since 2006, will remain head of the school.
