St. Mary’s Health Care System drops ‘acting’ from CEO Montez Carter’s title: 5 things to know

Athens, Ga.-based St. Mary’s Health Care System selected Montez Carter to serve as its permanent president and CEO, effective immediately.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Carter has served as acting president and CEO since November. He succeeds Don McKenna, who is leaving to take on the president and CEO roles at Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center in January 2018.

2. Mr. Carter most recently served as president of St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, a role he stepped into in March 2017.

3. He formerly served as president of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, Ga.

4. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

5. St. Mary’s Health Care System includes three hospitals, St. Mary’s Medical Group, a regional home health care and hospice services agency, a retirement community and numerous outpatient facilities.
