Deana Sievert, DNP, RN, has joined Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center as chief nursing officer.

Dr. Sievert joins the 671-bed teaching hospital from Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Ross Heart Hospital, both in Columbus, where she served as CNO for nearly four years. She shared news of her new role Nov. 6 in a LinkedIn post.

During her tenure at Wexner, Dr. Sievert led efforts to strengthen recruitment and retention, including among nurse managers. The hospital began offering four-day workweeks to nurse managers under her leadership, which supported recruitment.

“That has definitely made the job much more attractive and we’ve been able to recruit because of that,” she told Becker’s in a June 2024 interview about hospitals’ efforts to support nurse managers’ well-being. “We have to relieve them of their 24/7 responsibility. … They can’t be everything to everybody 24/7.”

Dr. Sievert brings more than three decades of leadership experience to the new role. Prior to joining Ohio State University Wexner, she was president of Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica’s hospitals in Fremont and Fostoria.
