Omar Lateef, DO, president and CEO of Rush University System for Health and Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, plans to retire in June 2027.
Dr. Lateef will remain in his role during the transition before returning to clinical practice and expanding his work in community and public health, according to a June 25 health system news release. The board of directors will launch a national search for his successor in early fall 2026.
Dr. Lateef has been with Rush for nearly 25 years. After completing a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in 2005, he joined the faculty and later served as chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine. He was named president and CEO of Rush University Medical Center in 2019, president of Rush University System for Health in 2021 and CEO of the system in 2022.
During his tenure, Rush expanded its academic, research and clinical programs and advanced community health initiatives across Chicago, the release said. Dr. Lateef also helped elevate the system’s commitment to addressing the root causes of health disparities, championing investments in violence prevention, food access, housing stability and community partnerships.
