Rowan University medical school dean to lead University of Sciences: 4 things to know

Paul Katz, MD, has been named president of Philadelphia-based University of the Sciences, according to a PhillyVoice report.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Katz.

1. He is founding dean of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, N.J.

2. As founding dean of CMSRU, he oversaw the graduation of the medical school’s charter class in May and guided the school to receive full accreditation by the Liaison Committee For Medical Education in June, according to the report.

3. Dr. Katz was also previously the founding vice dean for faculty and clinical affairs and professor of medicine at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa.

4. In his new role, which he begins Sept. 1, Dr. Katz will replace Kathleen R. Mayes, PharmD, who has been serving as interim president since July 2015.
