Physician Comes to Helm of Financially Troubled Chicago-Area Hospital

A letter to employees from MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Ill., has announced that CEO Arnold Kimmel will resign and a physician will take his place, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

The new CEO, Enrique Beckmann, MD, is a pathologist who became the 244-bed hospital’s CMO in June.

The change comes a week after Mr. Kimmel disclosed plans to lay off 120 employees, or about 10 percent of the hospital’s workforce.

Mr. Kimmel was brought in to run the hospital by Transition Health Care, which last year bought MetroSouth, formerly St. Francis Hospital & Health Center.
