Philips appoints new CMO: 5 things to know

Royal Philips has appointed Jan Kimpen, MD, PhD, CMO, effective Jan. 1, 2016.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Kimpen.

1. In his role as CMO, he will work closely with the company's global network of medical thought leaders "to ensure that deep clinical insights and a people-focused approach are at the heart of our propositions," Philips CEO Frans van Houten said in a news release.

2. Dr. Kimpen joins Philips from the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he was chairman of the executive board. 

3. He joined UMC Utrecht, one of the largest healthcare organizations in the Netherlands, in 1997 and became board president in 2009.

4. At UMC Utrecht, Dr. Kimpen strengthened ties with the world-renowned Netherlands Cancer Institute at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital and the Netherlands Pediatric Oncology Center.

5. He has been the driving force behind partnerships with Philips and Eindhoven University of Technology, where he is a member of the strategic advisory board Health.
