Dr. Caligiuri will transition back to his role as a tenured faculty member. He will also serve as special advisor to the OSU president through the end of 2017 to ensure a smooth transition once the new cancer hospital CEO is selected. The reason for Dr. Caligiuri’s resignation was not made clear.

Raphael Pollock, MD, is taking over as permanent director of OSU’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and will create a transition team to oversee operations at James Cancer Hospital. Dr. Pollack has been serving as interim director of the cancer center since earlier this month, when Dr. Caligiuri left the position. Up until that point Dr. Caligiuri had been serving in a dual role as director of the cancer center and CEO of James Cancer Hospital.

Earlier this year, OSU Wexner Medical Center CEO Sheldon Retchin, MD, resigned, following complaints about his leadership from the faculty. The university is now searching for a chancellor to lead the medical center. The chancellor role will be similar to the CEO position, but will have a broader scope, according to the report.
