Bend, Ore.-based St. Charles Health System selected Michael Hartke to serve as its next president and CEO, effective July 5.
Mr. Hartke currently serves as executive vice president and COO and joined St. Charles a little more than a year ago, according to a May 11 health system news release.
He will succeed Steve Gordon, MD, who plans to retire after serving four years as president and CEO. Dr. Gordon will continue supporting the organization through the third quarter of the year, the release said.
Mr. Hartke brings more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience. Before joining St. Charles, he served as president of Northwest Community Healthcare, a division of Endeavor Health in Arlington Heights, Ill.
During Dr. Gordon’s tenure, St. Charles reached the top 10% nationally in staff retention and opened the St. Charles Cancer Institute and Cancer Center in Redmond, the release said.
St. Charles Health System operates four hospitals and employs more than 4,800 caregivers.
