New Orleans-based Ochsner Health has named Alexander Fortenko, MD, vice president of innovation, putting him in charge of the health system’s artificial intelligence and emerging technology strategy.
Dr. Fortenko will lead Innovation Ochsner, including its data science team, AI Center of Excellence and chief medical information officers team, according to a Sept. 1 news release.
In the role, he will oversee the health system’s adoption of AI and other emerging technologies, with responsibilities spanning governance, technology infrastructure and expansion of Ochsner’s innovation team.
Dr. Fortenko will also continue practicing as an emergency department physician. He joins Ochsner from NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine, both based in New York City, where he served as medical director of hospital at home and director of clinical innovation. He helped develop and launch NewYork-Presbyterian’s hospital-at-home program, which provides hospital-level acute care in patients’ homes.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Fortenko also led NewYork-Presbyterian’s telemedicine operations and helped establish remote patient monitoring programs and enterprise telemedicine quality standards.
He earned his medical degree and a master’s degree in public health from George Washington University.
