Here are four things to know about Mr. Barnett.
1. He has more than 20 years of experience building and leading information systems functions in complex healthcare settings, higher education, industry and IT consulting arenas, according to URMC.
2. Mr. Barnett will leave his role as vice president of the NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill., a network comprising four hospitals, 70 clinics and an 850-member physician practice.
3. During his tenure with NorthShore University HealthSystem, he led the planning and deployment of initiatives such as EHR and revenue cycle systems, enterprise data warehousing, meaningful use initiatives, IT Security, mobile app and telemedicine strategy, URMC said. He also drove IT participation in key population health efforts.
4. In his new role, Mr. Barnett succeeds long-time CIO Jerry Powell, who retired earlier this year.
