Mr. Watson began his role as president in 2013. He previously served as president of Durham, N.C.-based Duke Regional Hospital.
In October, Mr. Watson said he planned “to pursue his long-time interest in mentoring young healthcare professionals and, perhaps, to do a bit of consulting on organizational change” after he left, according to a memo from Earl M. Collier Jr., chairman of the hospital’s board.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s COO, Ellen Moloney, will serve as interim president.
