New surgery department head named for Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health

Orlando C. Kirton, MD, has been named surgeon-in-chief and chairman of the surgery department at Abington (Pa.) Hospital-Jefferson Health, according to a report on Philly.com.

Dr. Kirton previously was the Ludwig J. Pyrtek, MD, Chair of Surgery and chief of trauma at Hartford (Conn.) Hospital, according to the report.

He also previously served in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps, where he rose to the rank of major.

Dr. Kirton earned a medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and a master’s degree in business administration from Knoxville-based University of Tennessee.
