New Jersey’s Morristown Memorial Names Dr. David Shulkin as President

Atlantic Health’s Morristown (N.J.) Memorial Hospital has named David Shulkin, MD, as its new president, according to a news release by the hospital.

Dr. Shulkin will also serve as a vice president for the system. In his new position, Dr. Shulkin will assume the lead role in Atlantic Health’s largest hospital, where he has been serving as president elect and chief operating officer since January.

Dr. Shulkin most recently served as president and CEO of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. There he led the financial turnaround of the 1,308-bed university teaching hospital and implemented numerous organization-wide changes that advanced patient care, enhanced quality and improved patient and physician satisfaction, according to the release.

A board-certified internist, Dr. Shulkin has served in numerous physician leadership and academic roles, including chief medical officer for Temple University Hospital and for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as vice dean and chairman of the Department of Medicine for Drexel University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, completed his internship at Yale University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in general medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
