Columbus-based Nationwide Children’s Hospital has named Tara Floyd, BSN, RN, its senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, effective immediately.
Ms. Floyd will lead the hospital’s largest employee group, which is more than 4,000 nurses and 6,000 additional patient care staff across more than 60 locations, according to a July 21 news release.
She joins Nationwide Children’s from Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she served as vice president and associate chief nursing officer. Ms. Floyd spent more than 20 years at Children’s National, where she worked to advance quality, safety and clinical outcomes across critical and acute care.
Ms. Floyd succeeds Lee Ann Wallace, BSN, RN, who has served as chief nursing officer since 2020 and is retiring. Ms. Wallace joined the hospital in 2012 as neonatology service line administrator and was promoted to vice president of neonatal services in 2016 before taking the CNO role. Under her leadership, Nationwide Children’s earned two Magnet designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the release said.
The hospital said it conducted a national search to fill the role.
“Tara has spent more than two decades caring for children, inspiring her colleagues, nurturing professional growth, collaborating with partners and improving outcomes,” CEO Tim Robinson said in a statement. “She’s an ideal leader for such a large, crucial part of Nationwide Children’s.”
Nationwide Children’s is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit freestanding pediatric health systems, with a staff surpassing 17,000 and more than 1.9 million patient visits a year.
