He has served in the role on an interim basis since October, according to a March 27 news release. Dr. Vollstedt is a bariatric and laparoscopic surgeon with more than three decades of healthcare experience. After briefly retiring from surgical practice in 2021, he returned to MercyOne to serve as interim CMO.
“Most of my career was spent working directly with patients,” Dr. Vollstedt said. “However, I find, working in the hospital capacity as CMO allows for wider discussions about patient care and the delivery of high-quality care,” he said.
