Robert Ritz, president and CEO of Des Moines, Iowa-based MercyOne, will retire Jan. 2, 2026.
Mr. Ritz joined MercyOne in 2013 as president of Mercy Des Moines Hospital, according to a Sept. 30 health system news release. He became CEO of Mercy Health Network in 2017, which was later rebranded as MercyOne, co-owned by Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health and Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health.
Under his leadership, MercyOne grew to provide more than 4 million patient visits annually with 22,000 colleagues and several thousand physicians. In 2022, he oversaw the system’s full ownership transfer to Trinity Health and led its acquisition of Genesis Health System, now MercyOne Genesis. MercyOne now includes 40 owned and affiliated hospitals and hundreds of clinics.
Mr. Ritz has worked in healthcare leadership for 40 years. Trinity Health will begin recruiting for his successor in the coming months.
