Ms. Avendt had been serving as chief operating officer of McLaren St. Luke’s in Maumee, Ohio, according to the Sentinel-Tribune. The hospital closed due to declining revenues and an unstable reimbursement environment on May 8 — one week earlier than initially planned. Mercy Health is acquiring the shuttered campus and will officially take the reins June 1, though there are no official plans for the building.
Ms. Avendt will take over at Perrysburg Hospital for Andrea Gwyn, the Toledo Blade reported. Ms. Gwyn has been serving Mercy Health as president of both the Perrysburg facility and St. Anne Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
Mercy has hired more than 400 staff members from St. Luke’s since mid-March, according to the Blade.
