MemorialCare Long Beach (Calif.) Medical Center has appointed Gary Purushotham as CEO and Sapna Mehta, DO, as chief medical officer, where they will lead in a dyad leadership model.
Mr. Purushotham most recently served as CEO of Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospital for nearly four years, according to a May 14 health system news release. Dr. Mehta has served as a hospitalist at Long Beach Medical Center for more than seven years.
In his new role, Mr. Purushotham will focus on physician alignment, operational discipline, cost transformation initiatives and advancing the medical center’s high-reliability organization efforts to strengthen patient safety and quality.
Dr. Mehta will continue practicing as a hospitalist with a scaled-back schedule while serving as CMO. Her priorities include improving patient experience and care delivery from the emergency department through discharge and advancing the organization’s high-reliability efforts.
