Memorial Healthcare names new CEO: 5 things to know

Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Healthcare System has named Aurelio M. Fernandez III president and CEO.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Fernandez.

1. He has nearly four decades of experience in healthcare.

2. For the last nine years, Mr. Fernandez has been with the Memorial Healthcare System, serving first as CEO of Memorial Hospital Miramar (Fla.) before being promoted to executive vice president and COO of Memorial Healthcare System in 2012.

3. Mr. Fernandez has been serving as interim president and CEO since March 1, following the retirement of Frank Sacco. The South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners unanimously voted April 5 to name him to the position permanently.

4. Mr. Fernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in health services administration from Florida International University, based in Miami.

5. He currently serves on the Florida Hospital Association board and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
