Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association names CEO to succeed Lynn Nicholas

The Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association has appointed Steven Walsh president and CEO. He will succeed Lynn Nicholas, who is retiring after a decade at the helm.

Mr. Walsh held the position of executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Community Hospitals since 2014. He previously served six terms in Massachusetts House of Representatives, chairing the Health Committee on Healthcare Financing in 2011.

"We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Steve's combined depth of experience and enthusiasm to lead MHA," said Kate Walsh, chair of the MHA Board of Trustees and President and CEO of Boston Medical Center. "His vision for the future of our Commonwealth's hospitals, health systems and other affiliated caregivers will undoubtedly be a great asset given that health care at the national level is in flux and the pace of reform continues in Massachusetts."

Ms. Walsh also noted the contributions Ms. Nicholas made throughout her time with MHA.

"Lynn has been among the most influential voices on healthcare policy and strategy in the Commonwealth during her tenure at MHA," Kate Walsh said. "She has worked collaboratively and tirelessly to protect access to high-quality, affordable care for patients. On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, we thank Lynn for her dedication to the health and wellbeing of our communities."
