Martha T. Berry center executive director takes indefinite leave: 4 things to know

Jennifer Morgan, executive director of the Martha T. Berry Medical Care Facility in Mount Clemens, Mich., has taken an indefinite leave of absence, according to The Macomb Daily.

Here are four things to know about Ms. Morgan and her leave.

1. Ms. Morgan took the leave in late March.

2. David Flynn, chairman of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, told The Macomb Daily that the facility is going to seek an interim director to take over for Ms. Morgan.

3. Ms. Morgan's leave comes as she has been under fire for taking a double-digit salary increase when the federal government has rated the facility's quality of care as poor, according to the report. Ms. Morgan was paid a salary of $110,000 when she was hired in 2010, but the Human Services Board, a three-member panel that oversees Martha T. Berry, last year approved a revised salary of $120,600. That's not including a compensation package she also received, according to the report.

4. Human Services Board Chairman Robert Facione told The Macomb Daily Ms. Morgan's pay was raised because she was the lowest paid director in a survey of other administrators in the state operating with 200 more beds. He also noted to the publication that a higher salary was sought to attract quality candidates once Ms. Morgan leaves.
