Lower Keys Medical Center appoints David Clay CEO after longtime exec resigns in midst of criticism

Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, Fla., named David Clay CEO, effective Nov. 28.

Here are six things to know:

1. Mr. Clay most recently served as CEO of Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet, N.C.

2. He has previously served in operational roles for hospitals in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma.

3. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

4. Mr. Clay replaces former CEO Nicki Will, who left in July after 13 years in the position.

5. According to a FL Keys News report, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems appointed Stephen Pennington as interim CEO. CHS owns both Lower Keys Medical Center and Sandhills Regional Medical Center.

6. The report also notes that Ms. Will “resigned abruptly in the face of mounting criticism over patient care and billing practices.”
