Leidos appoints CMO: 8 things to know

Leidos, a health, national security and engineering solutions company, has appointed Donald Kosiak Jr., MD, CMO.

Here are eight things to know about Dr. Kosiak.

1. He will begin his job Feb. 8.

2. In his new role, he will be responsible for providing clinical subject matter expertise and perspective, knowledge, experience, leadership and direction "to ensure collaboration and alignment to business strategy across the Health Solution Group and entire Leidos organization," according to a news release.

3. As CMO, he will also provide clinical domain support looking for new market and business development activities, strategic business initiatives and new product/solution development. 

4. Prior to joining Leidos, Dr. Kosiak was vice president for medical development and Avera eCARE executive medical director for Avera Health, a 32-hospital integrated medical system based in Sioux Falls, S.D.

5. He also previously served as regional medical information officer and as the elected chief of staff of Sioux Falls-based Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

6. Dr. Kosiak has worked for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Science for Peace and Security Program. There, he provided medical leadership for the development of a multinational telemedicine response system for use in humanitarian crisis situations and global disaster response. 

7. He continues to serve in the Army National Guard as an emergency physician, and he is currently state surgeon for the South Dakota Army National Guard.  

8. Dr. Kosiak attended medical school at the University of North Dakota, based in Grand Forks. He also earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
