Lakeland Regional Health CEO Elaine Thompson to retire in 2020; COO to succeed her

Elaine C. Thompson, president and CEO of Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health, plans to retire, effective Dec. 31, 2020.

Ms. Thompson will retire after a decade in the role, which she assumed in 2010. During her tenure, she oversaw $350 million in facility improvements, including expanding the Hollis Cancer Center and establishing the Bannasch Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation Medicine. She also led the creation of a multidisciplinary employed physician group with more than 2,000 physicians and advanced care practitioners.

Danielle Drummond, executive vice president and COO of Lakeland Regional Health, will succeed Ms. Thompson, effective Jan. 1, 2021.

Ms. Drummond has worked at the organization since 2013. As COO, she helped drive clinical collaborations with Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Jacksonville, Fla.-based Nemours Children’s Health System. She also led the design and construction of the eight-story Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children.
