John Porter to leave job for MaineHealth position: 3 things to know

John Porter, president and CEO of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, intends to leave his job late this summer to become a system director, marketing and communication, for Portland-based MaineHealth, according to a Portland Press Herald report.

Mr. Porter submitted his letter of resignation earlier this week to chamber board members.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Porter.

1. Mr. Porter started as chamber president in January 2010.

2. Mr. Porter was previously principal and founder of John Porter Public Strategies, a communications and government relations firm he started in Greater Portland in 2009, according to the report.

3. Mr. Porter worked for nearly two decades as a journalist at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram.
