Dr. Jim Burkhart named to Florida Hospital Association leadership post: 4 things to know

Jim Burkhart, DSc, president and CEO of Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital was named vice chairman and chairman-elect of the Florida Hospital Association.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Burkhart.

1. He has a history with the FHA, which comprises 214 member hospitals and health systems across the state. He was an FHA trustee for two years and this past year was treasurer. 

2. Dr. Burkhart came to TGH in 2013 after serving as president and CEO of UF&Shands Jacksonville (Fla.) Medical Center, now known as UF Health Jacksonville.

3. Previously, he also was president of a Fort Lauderdale-based healthcare management consulting firm.

4. He earned a Doctorate of Science, Administration-Health Services degree, and a Master in Hospital and Healthcare Administration from the University of Alabama Birmingham.
