Alexander Ramirez, MD, was named chief physician executive of Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health, according to an Oct. 5 news release shared with Becker’s.
As the system’s senior physician leader, Dr. Ramirez will oversee clinical strategy, physician relations and performance in quality, safety and patient outcomes, according to the release. He will also lead enterprise physician strategy for both employed and affiliated physicians.
Dr. Ramirez joins Cone Health from Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health, where he was associate chief medical officer for specialty care. In that role, he helped oversee specialty care across a region of more than 20 hospitals and an ambulatory care network. He has also worked at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.
He is a board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon. His prior leadership roles include department chief and medical director.
“Dr. Ramirez brings exceptional experience leading physician organizations, advancing value-based care and improving clinical outcomes across large, integrated health systems,” Cone Health CEO Paul Krakovitz, MD, said in the release.
Cone Health, part of Washington, D.C.-based Risant Health, has five hospitals and more than 14,000 employees.
