Illinois hospital CEO to retire

Theresa Rutherford, MSN, RN, president and CEO of HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Ill., plans to retire from HSHS this spring.

Ms. Rutherford will retire with more than 45 years of healthcare experience, according to a hospital news release shared with Becker’s. Her last day will be April 1.

“Every person is called to serve at a time according to God’s plan,” Ms. Rutherford said in the release. “We have accomplished great things in our time together. Now, you are ready and able to live and write the next chapter of our mission, ‘to reveal and embody Christ’s healing love for all people through our high-quality Franciscan healthcare ministry.'”

Ms. Rutherford has served as president and CEO of St. Mary’s since 2021. Before that, she served as CEO of HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Ill. 

St. Mary’s and St. Anthony’s are both part of Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System.
