IHI CEO Maureen Bisognano to retire: 4 things to know

Maureen Bisognano, president and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, will retire at the end of the year.

Here are four things to know about Ms. Bisognano and her retirement plans.

1. Although she is retiring, Ms. Bisognano will stay engaged with IHI, working with leaders globally and continuing to advise both IHI and its partner organizations on how best to improve health and healthcare worldwide, officials said.

2. Ms. Bisognano's future plans include applying her expertise on improvement and large-scale change to address other social issues.

3. Ms. Bisognano joined IHI in 1995 and was IHI's executive vice president and COO for 15 years. She was named president and CEO in 2010.

4. IHI has appointed Derek Feeley, IHI's executive vice president, as Ms. Bisognano's successor, effective Jan. 1, 2016.
