The Gila Regional board made the decision in a closed session Tuesday. Board members interviewed three finalists for the interim CEO position, ultimately choosing Mr. Ontiveros.
Mr. Ontiveros is expected to enter his position in January. He will replace CEO Brian Cunningham, who worked at the medical center for 14 years and served as CEO for the past three years.
