Mr. Akhtar assumed the role one year ago, following the merger between Fairview and St. Paul, Minn.-based HealthEast in June 2017. During his tenure, he spearheaded a management change that led to facilities being managed with regard to service lines and not geography. He also focused on “primary care transformation,” CEO James Hereford said in a statement obtained by the Star Tribune.
Following Mr. Akhtar’s departure next month, Laura Reed, Fairview’s chief nursing executive and president for acute care hospitals, will take on the responsibilities of COO in addition to her current role, according the report.
