Erie County Medical Center Corp. names new leaders: 7 things to know

The Erie County Medical Center Corp. has appointed Richard C. Cleland as the hospital system's new CEO and Thomas J. Quatroche Jr., PhD, as its new president.

The system includes Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y., on- and off-campus health centers, more than 30 outpatient specialty care services and Terrace View, a 390-bed long-term care facility in Buffalo.

Here are seven things to know about Mr. Cleland and Mr. Quatroche.

1. Mr. Cleland has been interim CEO of the system since April 2014, and he served as COO from 2012-14. He has held various other leadership positions at ECMC since 2008. 

2. As CEO, Mr. Cleland will provide leadership for all operations and coordinate care at ECMC and Terrace View.

3. Mr. Cleland is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. 

4. Mr. Cleland was one of the first two ECMC executive administrators specially selected to participate in a nine-month Harvard University leadership development program, according to ECMC.

5. Mr. Quatroche has worked in higher education and healthcare for more than two decades in various executive roles. He was most recently senior vice president of ECMC.

6. In his new role, Mr. Quatroche will serve as the corporate affairs officer, responsible for external affairs and strategic initiatives of the system.

7. Mr. Quatroche also served on statewide committees in education and healthcare for the State University of New York and the Healthcare Association of New York State.
