Encompass taps regional president

Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health has named Mathew “Mat” Gooch president of the system’s Northeast region.

Mr. Gooch joined Encompass Health 11 years ago and previously served as CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in Delaware. He was named vice president of operations for the Northeast region in 2024.

Encompass Health expects to open three additional hospitals in 2026. Its first hospital in Connecticut, located in Danbury, will open this month, expanding the region’s footprint to 27 hospitals across 11 states, the release said.

Encompass Health operates 169 hospitals across 38 states and Puerto Rico.
