Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare has named Chief Strategy Officer David Russell as interim CFO, effective Nov. 15.

Mr. Russell succeeds current senior vice president and CFO Pat McCabe, who is retiring, according to an Oct. 28 Emory Healthcare news release. Mr. McCabe will stay on as an adviser to Mr. Russell through Dec. 31 to support the transition.

Mr. Russell will keep his role as chief strategy officer for Emory Healthcare and Woodruff Health Sciences. He joined the system Oct. 1, 2025, and has since led enterprise strategy, business development and strategic partnerships. In the combined role, he will tie Emory’s strategic priorities to its operational and financial discipline.

“David is a seasoned healthcare executive who will bridge finance and strategy in this expanded role to ensure that planning, priorities and execution are connected across the enterprise,” said Joon S. Lee, MD, CEO of Emory Healthcare and executive vice president for Woodruff Health Sciences of Emory University.

Mr. Russell previously served as chief business development officer and executive vice president of organizational transformation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
