Ed Banos named COO of University Health System: 5 things to know

Edward “Ed” Banos has been named COO and executive vice president of San Antonio-based University Health System.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Banos.

1. Mr. Banos replaces interim COO Mark Webb, who has been named CEO of Pediatrics at University Health System.

2. Mr. Banos has more than 27 years of healthcare administration experience.

3. Most recently, Mr. Banos served as CEO of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint’s Upper Peninsula Health System — Marquette (Mich.).

4. Prior to joining Duke LifePoint, Mr. Banos was president and CEO of Good Shepherd Health System in Longview, Texas. Before that, he served as CEO of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare’s North Shore Medical Center in Miami, and COO of Tenet’s Park Plaza Hospital in Houston.

5. Mr. Banos earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Health Service Administration at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savanah, Ga.
