Here are five things to know:
1. Hospital officials did not give a reason for the sudden departure.
2. The hospital, a Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems facility, put 3 percent of its workers on furlough or unpaid leave and cut back hours for other workers in November 2016.
3. CHS is in the midst of financial challenges, with the operator recently signing a definitive agreement to sell Yakima (Wash.) Regional Medical Center & Cardiac Center and Toppenish (Wash.) Community Hospital to Sunnyside (Wash.) Community Hospital & Clinics to reduce its debt.
4. A CHS spokesperson did not say if selling Easton Hospital is an option the company is considering to further drive down debt.
5. The hospital has started searching for a new CEO. In the interim, Ron Ziobro, currently the assistant CEO at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa., will lead Easton Hospital.
