Dr. James Merlino returns to Cleveland Clinic as its first chief clinical transformation officer

Cleveland Clinic appointed James Merlino, MD, its inaugural chief clinical transformation officer, effective Dec. 1.

Dr. Merlino most recently served as chief transformation officer at Press Ganey, a company that supports patient experience improvement. He joined Press Ganey as president and chief medical officer of the strategic consulting division in 2015.

From 2009 to 2014, he was chief experience officer and associate chief of staff at Cleveland Clinic. He also provided care as a colorectal surgeon.

Dr. Merlino released his first book, Service Fanatics: How to Build Superior Patient Experience the Cleveland Clinic Way, in 2014.
