Tony Coleman is stepping down as CEO of Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health in Washington, D.C., less than a year after the hospital opened, according to a hospital statement shared with Becker’s.
Cedar Hill Regional said Mr. Coleman has submitted his resignation, effective March 13, “to pursue another healthcare opportunity.”
“We are grateful for Tony’s leadership in opening Washington D.C.’s first new hospital in over 20 years, and we appreciate his commitment to improving the health status of Washingtonians,” the hospital said. “We wish him much success in his future endeavors.”
Kimberlee Daniels, who has served as COO of The George Washington University Hospital since October 2023, will step in as interim CEO at Cedar Hill, effective Jan. 26. She will work with Mr. Coleman in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition, the hospital said.
Mr. Coleman was hired by King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services in 2023 to help lead preparations and staffing efforts ahead of Cedar Hill’s opening in April 2025. He previously served as president and CEO of Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
His resignation, which was first reported by WJLA-TV, follows the departure of the hospital’s COO and its chief nursing officer, according to The Washington Post.
The $434 million, 406,000-square-foot facility opened in the District of Columbia’s Ward 8 as part of a public-private partnership between the local government, UHS and George Washington University.
