DaVita names Joel Ackerman CFO

­­Denver-based DaVita, an independent medical group and kidney care services provider, has named Joel Ackerman CFO, effective March 1.

Since 2010, Mr. Ackerman has served as CEO of Champions Oncology, a Hackensack, N.J.-based company that develops technology solutions to personalize the development and use of oncology drugs. Prior to Champions Oncology, he headed up the healthcare services group at private equity firm Warburg Pincus from 1993 to 2008. Mr. Ackerman has also served on the board of Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare since 2008.  

“Joel has experience in a wide variety of healthcare service segments and stages of companies,” said Kent Thiry, chairman and CEO of DaVita. “We believe his strategic, financial, and healthcare industry experience will serve him well as a member of our senior leadership team.”

Jim Hilger, who has served as DaVita’s interim CFO since 2015, will continue his role as chief accounting officer when Mr. Ackerman takes over as CFO.
