Cincinnati VA hospital makes 6th leadership change in 18 months

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center reassigned Elizabeth Brill, MD, the hospital's chief of staff, to an administrative position, marking the sixth leadership change at the facility within the past 18 months, according to WCPO 9 Cincinnati.

Here are four things to know:

1. The Cincinnati VA confirmed Dr. Brill's reappointment to WCPO 9 June 8. The move was made as hospital officials investigate "certain operations of the surgery department," the report states.

"VA will conduct an internal review [this week] of certain operations of the surgery department and we will await the completion of that review before commenting," Cincinnati VA Medical Center Director Vivian Hutson told WCPO 9.

2. Ms. Hutson told the publication in a statement Dr. Brill will remain in the chief of staff position, but has been "detailed" to a "temporary role as senior advisor to the chief medical officer" in the VA's regional network office in Ohio.

3. G. Mitchell Kennedy, MD, will replace Dr. Brill as acting chief of staff at the VA hospital, the report states. Dr. Kennedy serves as a Columbus-based surgical consultant to the regional management office in charge of VA facilities in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, the report states. He also works as a surgeon at Columbus-based River Surgical Associates.

4. Dr. Kennedy will be the third physician to occupy the chief of staff position.
