Chicago-based Cook County Health has appointed its first chief clinical officer and a new chief medical officer.
Daniel McCormick, MD, has been appointed as chief clinical officer, a role in which he will oversee efforts to foster a culture of excellence in care quality and safety, and regulatory compliance, according to a June 3 news release shared with Becker’s. He most recently served as CEO and president of Franciscan Health Crown Point (Ind.). Dr. McCormick is also the former CMO and vice president of medical affairs of Specialty Physicians of Illinois, leading a 90-member multispecialty group.
Lauren Smith, MD was selected to serve as CMO. She will be responsible for developing and implementing clinical standards to improve clinical outcomes, and ensure clinical services align with CCH’s strategic goals. Dr. Smith, an emergency physician, joins the public safety net system from UI Health, where she most recently served as associate CMO for patient logistics and emergency medicine. She previously worked with CCH as interim medical director of emergency medicine at Stroger Hospital in Chicago
CCH is one of the country’s largest public health systems, operating two hospitals and more than a dozen community health centers.
