The health system did not provide a reason for her resignation.
In accordance with the health system’s bylaws, Board of Directors Vice Chair Gordon J. Campbell will act as interim chair until a permanent replacement is selected, according to a statement from NYC Health + Hospitals.
“It has been an honor to serve as Board Chair of Health + Hospitals for this past year,” Ms. Barrios-Paoli said in a prepared statement. “I have profound respect for all the committed volunteer members of this board and the talented leadership team. Although I have decided to step down as chair of the board, I remain committed to the mission of this essential public health are system.”
Previously, Ms. Barrios-Paoli served as deputy mayor for health and human services to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. She resigned from that position at the end of August 2015 after 20 months in the role, according to Politico.
