CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System Steps Down

Jim Gardner, president and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System, announced Monday that he will leave the health system, according to an Access North Georgia report.

Mr. Gardner joined NGHS in March 2004 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime CEO John A. Ferguson. Mr. Gardner joined the health system with a 20-year history of executive leadership in various health systems.

Mr. Gardner said his resignation was prompted by the desire to work with an organization less prepared for the future than NGHS. He added that leaving will give him the opportunity to spend more time with his family.

NGHS has announced that Carol Burrell, executive vice president and COO, will serve as interim CEO following Mr. Gardner's departure.
