Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, has stepped down as president and CEO of Rockville Centre, N.Y.-based Catholic Health, effective immediately.
Executive Vice President and COO Gary Havican has been appointed interim president and CEO, a health system spokesperson said in a June 2 statement shared with Becker’s.
Dr. O’Shaugnessy became CEO in 2021 after serving as chief medical officer and chief clinical officer. Before his systemwide leadership roles, he was senior vice president and chief medical officer of St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, N.Y., according to his LinkedIn profile.
“Catholic Health thanks Dr. O’Shaughnessy for his many years of service to the organization and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” the spokesperson said. “The organization remains focused on continuity, operations, its strategic priorities and its mission of delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the patients and communities it serves.”
Mr. Havican became COO in February 2024, overseeing operations of the system’s six hospitals, employed medical group and home care and hospice services. Before joining Catholic Health, he was president of Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare’s central region.
