Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health selected Brad Beard to serve as COO for Essentia Health-East, according to a Business North report.

Here are four things to know:

1. Essentia Health-East includes Essentia Health facilities in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.

2. Mr. Beard most recently served as regional president overseeing Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn., and Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minn.

3. He started his healthcare career as a physical therapist.

4. Mr. Beard holds a master’s degree in health administration from Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota.
