Bon Secours Mercy Health selects CHS exec as group president: 5 notes

Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health tapped Patton Paul Smith Jr. to serve as president of its Mid-American Group, effective July 1.

Five notes:

1. Mr. Smith most recently served as president of division III operations for Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.

2. He has prior experience as CEO of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in in Mooresville, N.C.

3. He was also a vice president with North Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates, which Community Health Systems acquired in 2013.

4. Mr. Smith holds a master of business and health administration degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

5. He succeeds Mike Garfield, who is retiring.
